Short Stories to Learn Spanish

Reading is the key to improving your comprehension skills and help you create better sentences.

But when you’re still a beginner or intermediate-level learner, it can be difficult to find proper materials to practice reading. You will also need to consult a dictionary while you’re reading, and without an audio accompaniment, you will find it difficult to learn new words and how they’re pronounced by native speakers.

An Effective Way to Improve Your Spanish Reading and Listening Comprehension Skills

For new Spanish-learners, reading and listening to short stories can be a fun and painless way to learn Spanish. Short stories will introduce you to new vocabulary and sentence structures, while the accompanying audio material will help you with listening comprehension.

Through learning in this way, you will be able to:

  • Improve your Spanish without the monotonous chore of memorizing grammar rules.
  • Learn new vocabulary that you can immediately put to use in everyday life.
  • Practice your listening skills by listening to a native Spanish-speaker narrating the stories.

Improve Your Listening Skills in Spanish

With the help of the audio, you can give your listening skills a boost as well as practice your pronunciation. Recorded by a professional voice talent from Madrid, Spain, the stories are narrated using a standard Spanish accent and slightly slower speed than how actual Spanish people speak.

This will allow beginners and low-intermediate learners to grasp the narration properly. Extra care has also been given to the recording of the audio to ensure a pleasurable listening experience for learners.

Boost Your Comprehension with Useful Learning Aids and Extra Features

In addition to the audio material provided, you will find:

  • Questions at the end of each chapter: to promote comprehension.
  • A summary of the story: after each chapter, you are encouraged to write a short summary of the story, and you can compare it to the provided summary, to check for understanding.

These learning aids are embedded directly into the material to ensure a smooth flow of learning.

  1. Laurine

This book is as good as the volume one and complete it perfectly. I recommend it.

  2. Erica Miller

I really enjoyed this method of learning and appreciate the use of short stories. Since getting the book, I’ve been able to complete at least one story a day and my Spanish has definitely improved. I like the tests after each story so that I’m able to tell how much I understand.

  3. Valerie

These short stories are really good for someone trying to grow their basic Spanish knowledge. The vocab words and the quizzes at the ends of the stories keep you accountable while the audio and stories keep it fun.

  4. Odalis Turcios

This book is a very helpful aid for those who want to brush up on their Spanish. To make sure you understand what you’re reading, there are questions after each short story, as well as a list of vocabulary that’s translated into English. I was able to extend my knowledge on a few other words you are likely to use daily, as well as practice my conjugations.

  5. Galina Green

The audio book is good for beginners to get used to the native spoken Spanish; however, the stories are a bit too complicated for complete beginners with very little vocabulary. It does help having the transcripts of the stories and translations of the words and phrases used in the book attached if you want to learn new vocabulary this way. I liked this audio book as I am a very independent learner and like the challenge of listening to something that I do not quite understand at first and find the answers myself later.

  6. Shaquese B

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Each story has bolded text and phrases that may not be familiar with beginners and defines them after each section. There are also beautiful illustrations. I would have preferred the definition of bolded text was in the footnotes instead of under each paragraph. Aside from that, this book is very beginner friendly and the stories are very heart-felt and entertaining.

  7. Renato

I like this book because all of its 11 stories are daily based situations and thebvocabulary used as well. So it helps a lot Spanish language learner. Something that makes even better are the audios
